Kafie 1901 Ethiopia Sidamo is a USDA Certified Organic, Fair Trade, single origin whole bean coffee from the Sidamo region of Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, roasted fresh in small batches in Miami, Florida. 16 oz / 1 lb bag, Medium Roast, 100% Arabica, GMO free and gluten free.
Tasting notes
Citrusy and bright, with berry and floral notes in the aroma, a smooth and delicate body, and a lovely light cocoa sweetness. A deliberately gentle roast keeps the fruit character intact while adding just enough roastiness for a sweet, clean finish. This is the most aromatic coffee in the lineup and the one to brew as pour over.

Why Ethiopian coffee tastes different
Ethiopia is where Arabica coffee originates, and it still grows thousands of heirloom varieties found nowhere else. That genetic diversity is why Ethiopian coffee carries berry, citrus and floral notes that a Brazilian or Colombian bean simply cannot produce. Sidamo sits in the south of the country at high altitude, which slows cherry maturation and concentrates sugar and aroma in the bean.
Sidamo or Yirgacheffe
Yirgacheffe is actually a district within the wider Sidamo growing area. Yirgacheffe lots tend to lean intensely floral and tea like. Broader Sidamo lots like ours keep the fruit and florals but carry more body and a rounder cocoa sweetness, which makes them easier to brew well at home.

Questions we get asked
What does Ethiopian Sidamo taste like?
Bright and citrusy with berry and floral aromatics, a delicate body and a light cocoa sweetness on the finish.
Is it a light roast?
It is a medium roast. Light enough to keep the fruit and florals, developed enough that it brews forgivingly on a home drip machine.
Is this organic Ethiopian coffee?
Yes, USDA Certified Organic and Fair Trade, roasted in a CCOF Certified Organic facility under the USDA National Organic Program.
Best brew method?
Pour over shows off the aromatics best, but it makes an excellent drip cup too. It is not the bean we would pick for espresso.
Is it gluten free and non-GMO?
Yes to both. Coffee is naturally gluten free and organic certification prohibits GMOs.
