The Journey

Where exceptional coffee begins

Coffee sourcing

Exceptional coffee begins at the source.

Our team includes a certified Q Grader and experienced coffee importer who carefully selects some of the finest Arabica beans from the world’s most respected coffee-growing regions.

Each coffee is sourced from a single origin, not blended with beans from multiple regions, allowing its authentic character, aroma, and flavor to shine. We are committed to fair and responsible trade practices that support fair wages, protect farming communities, and stand firmly against child labor and abusive working conditions.

Our coffees are USDA Certified Organic and carefully inspected for mold, mildew, and other contaminants before reaching our roaster. We accept nothing less than exceptional quality.

Our family name is printed on every bag. For us, it doesn’t simply have to be good, it has to be among the very best.

Arrival in Miami

By sea to Miami, the gateway to the Americas.

From coffee-growing regions around the world, our carefully selected green coffee beans make their journey by sea to Miami, Florida, the gateway to the Americas and the home of Kafie 1901 Coffee.

Upon arrival, each shipment is received and stored in a secure, temperature-controlled facility designed to protect the beans’ freshness, quality, and natural character. Here, they remain safely preserved until it is time to travel to our roasting facility.

Every burlap bag represents a distinct origin, a farming community, and generations of agricultural tradition. In Miami, these remarkable coffees from around the world come together, not to be blended, but to be carefully protected until each origin is roasted and presented at its very best.

Finding each origin’s roast profile

The roast profile

Every coffee origin has its own story.

Our responsibility is to help that story reveal itself in every cup.

Working alongside our roasting team, our certified Q Grader carefully evaluates each lot of green coffee, studying its density, moisture, aroma, structure, and natural flavor potential. Sample roasts are then prepared, cupped, and refined until we identify the ideal roast profile for that particular origin.

We do not force every coffee into the same formula. Instead, temperature, timing, and development are precisely adjusted to highlight what makes each bean special — whether it offers notes of chocolate, caramel, fruit, florals, nuts, or natural sweetness.

This collaboration between trained expertise, skilled craftsmanship, and generations of family experience allows us to achieve the perfect roast match: one created specifically to bring out the very best in every coffee we offer.

Small-batch roasting

Where experience, precision, and craftsmanship come together.

By roasting in carefully controlled quantities, our team can give every batch the individual attention it deserves, something that is simply not possible with mass-produced coffee.

Throughout the roast, we closely monitor temperature, timing, airflow, aroma, color, and bean development. These careful adjustments allow us to follow the unique roast profile created for each origin while achieving remarkable consistency from one batch to the next.

Small-batch production also allows us to roast according to demand, helping ensure that the coffee arriving at your home is fresh, aromatic, and full of its intended character.

This is our area of expertise. We do not roast for speed or volume; we roast with purpose, carefully developing every batch to honor the farmers who cultivated it and the people who will ultimately enjoy it.

The perfect finish

Every roast reaches a defining moment.

The exact second when the beans have fully developed their intended aroma, flavor, sweetness, and body. At that moment, the batch is released from the roaster and immediately cooled to stop the roasting process with precision.

Because every coffee varietal responds differently to heat, both the roasting temperature and cooling process are carefully matched to the characteristics of each bean. Even a few extra seconds can change the final cup, which is why our team watches every roast closely from beginning to end.

This attention to detail protects the coffee’s natural qualities and allows its finest flavor profile to emerge. We are always learning, refining, and searching for ways to create an exceptional coffee experience for the friends and supporters who welcome Kafie 1901 Coffee into their homes.

The drop

Preserving the roast

The roasting process does not truly end when the beans leave the roaster.

Still carrying intense internal heat, they must be cooled quickly and evenly to prevent them from continuing to roast on their own.

The freshly roasted beans are released into an open cooling tray, where constant movement and carefully controlled airflow rapidly bring down their temperature. This stops the roast at precisely the right point, preserving the aroma, natural sweetness, clarity, and flavor profile our team worked so carefully to develop.

Cooling too slowly can alter the color and character of the coffee. That is why we treat this final stage with the same precision as the roast itself. From the first application of heat to the final breath of cooling air, every moment matters.

Resting

Great coffee cannot be rushed.

Once our coffee has been carefully roasted and cooled, it enters one of the most important, and often overlooked, stages of the process: resting.

For three days, the freshly roasted whole beans are allowed to naturally release carbon dioxide created during roasting. This process, known as degassing, helps the coffee stabilize and allows its aroma, body, and flavor profile to develop more fully. This is not simply waiting, it is an essential part of producing a balanced and exceptional cup of coffee.

After the resting period, the beans are carefully packed and sealed in food-grade bags suitable for certified organic coffee. Each bag contains a full 1 pound, 16 ounces, of whole-bean coffee, helping preserve its freshness, aroma, and natural character until you are ready to grind and enjoy it.

At Kafie 1901 Coffee Co.™, every step has a purpose. Great coffee cannot be rushed.
